Instructions

Metal and plastic bottle caps can be recycled in the blue, recycling cart. Loose, metal bottle caps can be tossed in the blue recycling cart alone, since they would be picked-out by a magnet on the sorting line. Plastic caps must be attached to a container before recycling. Loose plastic caps can entangle recycling machinery. If you have a loose plastic bottle cap, please put it in the grey landfill cart. Glass and plastic jar tops may be left attached to their jar.

Alternatives

Opt for a drink in a reusable glass or bottle instead, and carry it with you.

Facts

Metal bottle caps and jar lids are mainly made from steel (some bottle caps are aluminum) with a polyethylene (plastic) lining. The plastic lining will be burnt off when the metal is processed to make new metal products.
