If in good shape, sell or donate. If not, household electronics may be dropped off at the E-Waste Collective (also known as Computer & Technology Resource Center) at 620 Page St, Berkeley. Website: ewastecollective.org. Recycling of computer components is free, with a nominal donation for other electronics. They will ONLY accept CRTs (Cathode Ray Tubes, old fashioned TV screens) from CA residents.

Alternatives

Only buy and replace electronics when absolutely necessary and purchase refurbished and secondhand options if possible.

Facts

In 2016, Americans tossed out 45 million tons of electronics, including a million tons of chargers! Only 20% of this "e-waste" was recycled.
