Instructions

Both paper and solid plastic egg cartons, should be clean before they go in the blue recycling cart. Styrofoam egg cartons go in the gray landfill cart. If the paper cartons are soiled, or contain egg shells, they should go in the green waste cart, for composting.

Alternatives

Take back your egg cartons to a local farmers' market to use them again. You can also start seedlings in paper egg cartons. Fill each section with soil and a few seeds. Once the seeds have sprouted, divide the carton into the individual compartments and plant them (carton and all) in the ground.

Facts

Egg cartons made of recycled paper are often the last time that paper can be used/recycled since the quality of paper degrades after every time it's recycled.
