Compost

Instructions

100% compostable, if feathers are natural, and not painted or dyed. Place in green cart. Painted, dyed or synthetic feathers and fleeces should be placed in gray cart (landfill).

Alternatives

A natural down alternative is wool. While it’s more typically found woven in layering pieces and sweaters, specialty merino wool companies use threaded wool blends as insulation for winter jackets.

Facts

Synthetic feathers are hypoallergenic polyester or polyester blends, and offer a lower-cost, vegan, non-livestock industry alternative to bird-grown down. Unfortunately, they are bulkier, less insulating, less durable, and noncompostable. Please, make sure you are comfortable with your choice of comforter.
