Food of any kind can be composted: meat, seafood, fruit, vegetables, spoiled food, etc. Make sure to remove all stickers (even the tiny ones) and packaging, rubber bands, ties, etc. before placing in green cart.

Alternatives

Reduce food waste by meal planning, freezing food, proper storage of fruits and vegetables and participating in food drives. Learn how to properly store your food so it keeps longer.

Facts

Although acceptable in your organic waste curbisde cart, meat scraps and prepared food should not be placed in your personal backyard compost bin because most backyard bins do not reach a high enough temperature to kill the bacteria.
