Instructions

Currently, most ice cream is packaged in a mixed (paper & plastic liner) material container. These containers go into the grey landfill cart. If the carton is entirely paper (not slick on the inside), you can place the container and lid in the green, compost cart. If it's paper with a plastic lid or lid band, only the paper part can be composted. Separate the paper from the plastic band: the paper goes to the green cart and the plastic band to the gray cart (landfill). If it's all plastic make sure it's empty and clean, then place the container and lid in the blue recycling cart.

Alternatives

Opt for an edible cone instead of a cup, or dine in if possible.

Facts

The U.S leads the world in ice cream consumption with an average of 26 liters per person consumed per year.
