Jar Lids
Instructions
Lids that are larger than about 4 inches across can go into the blue recycling cart. Lids smaller than 4 inches can cause problems in recycling machinery and should be placed in the grey landfill cart. If made of metal, place in the blue recycling cart. If made of plastic, keep it attached to the container it came with and place in blue recycling cart.
Alternatives
Try to reuse the jar as long as possible before disposal. Glass jars are great to fill up with goodies from the bulk foods section.
Facts
Mining for metals is associated with a number of environmental and social concerns, but metal can be recycled somewhat effectively so it is a better choice over plastic products, if reused or recycled properly.
