The City of Berkeley has an attended drop-bin at the Zero Waste Center at 1201 Second St, Berkeley (near Gilman St.). Medications need to be placed in a CLEAR Ziploc bag. Please do not dispose of medical waste such sharps, biohazard waste, hazardous chemicals, pressurized containers, and mercury thermometers at this site.Find medicine drop off stations.
If possible, consider herbal medication and natural remedies that can be composted or stored away for later use.
When medications are disposed of in the trash or down the drain, they can find their way into our waterways and negatively impact frogs, fish, and other aquatic life. Medications are difficult to, and not commonly removed from our water supply, so ultimately they can come back to you, your children, or your neighbors.
