Instructions

[NEED](https://www.berkeleyneed.org/schedules/index.php) is a needle exchange program that will accept used sharps. Your local pharmacist may have a disposal drop for sharps onsite. Call CVS on Telegraph or another pharmacy before visiting. Dispose of medical waste at the Alameda County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, 2100 E 7th St, Oakland, CA 94606, (800) 606-6606. Call for hours of operation. Do not place needles or sharps in landfill container, as this can be a danger for staff.

Alternatives

You can take used syringes and needles to your local HHW (household hazardous waste) facility, like Alameda County HHW for free. An alternative is asking your medical provider(s) if they take used syringes, sharps and needles. Needles, sharps and syringes should not be disposed of in any other manner (especially as landfill).
