Spray Cans & Bottles
Instructions
These spray can and bottles go in the gray landfill cart. Empty the container, and separate any components such as nozzles or sprayer heads. Most of these are too small to recycle or made of mixed materials. Separately, the metal or plastic containers can go in the blue recycling cart. If a pressurized container cannot be emptied, take it to a HHW (Household Hazardous Waste) Facility. Partially filled, pressurized containers can perforate and burst during compaction and waste handling, endangering workers.
Alternatives
Make your own cleaning products with common household items instead (e.g., baking soda, white vinegar).
Facts
Chemical cleaning products often contain ingredients that can be harmful to human health and the environment. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) provides safety ratings for over 2,500 cleaning products.
