Instructions

Only paper-based tea bags can go in green, compost cart. The plastic ones ("silky" pyramids) go in the gray, landfill cart. Check to see which type you have before disposing of it. One way to easily tell if you have plastic or paper bags is the "tear test". If the bag tears easily, it should be made of paper. If it does not tear easily, it is probably plastic based.

Alternatives

Buy tea from the bulk section and use a reusable tea infuser.

Facts

Most paper tea bags have some small portion of plastic as their mesh material. The "silky" (pyramid) tea bags are plastic. The mostly paper bags are still worthy of composting, but landfill the "silky" ones.
