Aerosol cans
Instructions
Completely empty aerosol cans may go into the (blue) curbside recycling cart. Non-empty aerosol cans are not acceptable in the curbside recycling (blue cart) but can be taken to a S.A.F.E. Center to be properly disposed of. S.A.F.E. Centers are open weekends only. Residents must remain in their cars and wear face masks. Items need to be placed in an unlocked trunk for staff to access safely. Mobile Collection Events are postponed until further notice.

If you can find a pump-spray of the material you wish to disperse, this is an alternative to an aerosol propellant spray.
Facts
Since 1978, no aerosols made or sold in the U.S. have contained CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) except for a tiny fraction (less than 2%) specifically approved by the government for essential medical and other unique uses, such as inhalers for asthma sufferers. CFCs used as aerosol propellants, were found to cause ozone depletion. In the United States, the most common propellants are naturally occurring hydrocarbons. A few products, about 10% of today’s aerosols, use compressed gases like carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide as propellants. (National Aerosol Association)
