Paperback books can be placed in the blue recycling bin. Hardcover books cannot be recycled in residential containers, unless deconstructed, and can also be brought to the Berkeley Recycling Center at 669 Gilman Street (Gilman St. @ Second St.).

If you would like to donate books, ReSource has a list of nearby locations that may accept books (https://resource.stopwaste.org/search?item=13108&dest=All&method=All&distance%5Bpostal_code%5D=94702&distance%5Bsearch_distance%5D=5000&distance%5Bsearch_units%5D=mile). Please call in advance, as many businesses have been disrupted by COVID.

Hardcover books may need to be deconstructed before recycling because the covers can contain layered materials.
