If made of metal, place in the blue recycling cart. If made of plastic, keep it attached to the container it came with and place in blue recycling bin.
Alternatives
Try to reuse the jar as long as possible before disposal. Glass jars are great to fill up with goodies from the bulk section.
Facts
Mining for metals is associated with a number of environmental and social concerns, but metal can be recycled somewhat effectively so it is a better choice over plastic products, if reused or recycled properly.
