Make sure it's empty. Metal caps and lids can also be recycled but broken glass goes in the landfill bin.
Alternatives
Try to reuse the jar as long as possible before disposal. Glass jars are great to fill up with goodies from the bulk section.
Facts
Glass can be continuously recycled, there is no loss of quality or purity in the process. Glass dishes, light bulbs, windows, or glass bakeware melt at a different temperature than jar, and must be separated into landfill.
