Instructions

Ash from fireplace fires or grill fires, must be cold to the touch. Place the ashes in a paper bag (closed to avoid ashes flying away), and placed in the grey landfill cart.

Alternatives

Wood ash may be valuable to your neighbor gardeners. Pure wood ash adds potash (potassium) to the soil. Only ash from trunk wood is good for amending soil (for gardens) as it adds potassium (potash). Small branch and leaf ash is not useful in garden soil.

Facts

We actually don't have much fireplace ash any longer because of air pollution ordinances. Ashes from materials other than raw wood may be toxic depending upon what was burned.
