Compost

Instructions

Clean, natural (unpainted/untreated) wood can go in the green compost cart. It must be cut to 3’ and 3” in diameter, and must fit in the cart with the lid closed. Painted, stained, or treated wood, along with plywood or pressboard, must NOT be composted (paints and synthetic glues or adhesives will not compost).

Alternatives

If possible reuse or donate the wood for another project.

Facts

Commercial composting operations will 'chip' the wood into small pieces which will compost in their industrial piles. Reducing wood to proper dimensions (chips) would be much more work and also slower to degrade in a backyard compost pile (which will not get as "hot" as a commercial pile).
